Chapman, T. THE CYDER-MAKER'S INSTRUCTOR, Sweet-M= aker's Assistant, And Victualler's and Housekeeper's DIRECTOR. IN THREE PARTS. PART I. Directs the grower to make his cyder in the manner foreign wines are made; to pres= erve its body and flavour; to lay on a colour, and to cure all its disorders, whether bad flavour'd, p= rick'd, oily, or ropy. PART II. Instructs the trader or housekeeper to make raisin-wines, at a small Expence, little {if = any thing} inferior to foreign wines in strength or flavour; to cure their disorders; to lay on them new bodies, colour, &c. PART III. Directs t= he brewer to fine his beer and ale in a short time, and to cure them if prick'd or ropy.&n= bsp; To which is added, A Method to make yest to ferment beer, as well as common yest, when th= at is not to be had. All actually deduced from the AUTHOR'S experience. Dagenham: Barrel to Bottle Press, 2007 reprint. 17pp. 8¼x5¾= Not a facsimile, but not a reprint either, a sort of hybrid based on the 1762 edition. Above describes the contents well, interesting 18th century work. Originals are of course very scarce. Card covers. VG+. Book No.850. £3.50

Illustrated London News. SCOTCH WHISKY 1890. An Article from The Illustrated London News. Dag= enham: Barrel to Bottle Press, 2007. Frontis + 7pp + 7pp b/w illustrations including 5 = full page. 8¼x5¾ Reprint of an article that appeared in the 30th= of August 1890 edition of The Illustrated London News. Features the Glenlivet Distillery and the Royal Brackla Distillery, the premises of Andrew Usher and Co., the whisky making proce= ss and some commercial detail. It is not a facsimile reprint, however the te= xt has not been amended, but the excellent woodcut illustrations have been reduced in size. Interesting journalists view of the whisky industry in t= he late 19th Century. The article is mentioned on pages 153/4 of H. Charles Craig's The Scotch Whisky Industry Record [Dumbarton: Index Publishing, 1994]. Card covers. VG+. Book No.849. £3.50

Dagenham: Barrel to Bottle Press, 2007. (ii) + 8pp + (ii). 8¼x5¾ Copy= of an 8 page leaflet originally printed in 1852/3 by Bradbury & Evans, <= span class=3DSpellE>Whitefriars, London. The letter is follo= wed by 5 pages of testimonials by doctors and surgeons on the purity and health benefits of Allsopp's Ales. Text of the origi= nal was very clear apart from 10 lines on the last page. These lines can be r= ead with difficulty, but to avoid any problems the text is reproduced on the adjacent page. Oldham, C.F. CALIFORNIA WINES 1894. Dagenham, Essex: The Barrel to Bottle Press, 1999 1st edition thus. (iv) + 16pp. 8B/w decoration plus a map. 8¼x5¾ A reprint of a pa= per read before The Society of Arts, John Street, Adelphi, London on = January 31st 1894. Short introduction followed by the paper as read. Also price l= ist of California wines and analysis of California Burgundy no. 3, "Big Tree" bra= nd. It should be noted that the price list and analysis are probably later additions, c1900. Chas. F. Oldham was a member of a wine merchant who were importing large amounts of California = wine into Great Britain= at the time.
