Cross, R. CLASSIC 1000 COCKTAILS. London: Foulsham, 2003 2nd rev ed. 378pp. Col illus. Possibly the best cocktai= l book on the market, constantly in the top ten selling drinks books since publication in 1995. Although admittedly I am not a cocktail expert, and therefore may not be the best person to judge this book. Gives recipe, ho= w to do, correct glass to use, a recipe rating, number of units of alcohol per cocktail, and a brief indication of flavour. Historical note or comment to some cocktails. Paperback. Doxat, J. BOOTH'S HANDBOOK OF COCKTAILS AND MIXED DRINKS. London: Pan Books, 1969 2nd printing [revised]. 191pp. 7x4¼ A new anthology of recipes, both simple and prodigious, collated to appeal to modern taste; including various informa= tion of a useful or curious nature concerning some of the principal spirits, wines, liqueurs and beverages and the use thereof; together with other matters pertinent to drinks and drinking; and also containing advice and opinions to beguile and instruct aspiring bartenders, amateur and professional. That comes from the book and describes it perfectly. Not one gaudy coloured illustration of the type that blight modern books on the subject. Pages beginning to brown, but generally a VG copy. Edwards, G. &a= mp; S. THE DICTIONARY OF DRINK. A Guide to Every Type of Beverage. Stroud: Sutton Publishing, new edition, 2007. 1456pp. 9¼x6 First published in 1989 as The Language of Drink, this book has been reprinted quite a few times, but has been unavailable for some years. It is an indispensable reference book that should be on all book shelves. An A = 211; Z guide to every type of beverage, alcoholic and non alcoholic. Well over 40,000 entries including 4,000 cocktails with recipes, 1,000 on tea and coffee, and of course thousands on beers, wines, spirits and associated topics. Paperback. VG+.
